Obituary:
Johann (Potter) Quay – Retired Funeral Director, 77, of Vineland, NJ passed away early Friday morning in the SJH Reg. Med. Ctr., Vineland, NJ after being in failing health. Johann was born & raised in Vineland, NJ where she was a longtime city resident, she had resided in Newfield for 20 yrs prior to returning to Vineland. She was the daughter of the late Mable C. & Rowland C. Potter & the mother of the late Barbara Quay who died in 1999. Before retiring, Johann owned & operated with her husband the Potter-Quay Funeral Home in Vineland. She started working with her late father and later eventually took over the management and operation. She was a longtime member & Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, the First United Methodist Church of Vineland where she served as a Sunday School Teacher & Communion Steward & the Newfield Fire Co. Ladies Aux.. Johann was a 1957 graduate of the Eckels Embalming School in Philadelphia. She was a member of the West Jersey Funeral Directors Association, the N.J. State Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association. She also served as the Motor Corp Chairwoman & Disaster Services Chairwoman of the American Red Cross. For many years she responded & served with the Salvation Army Canteen truck serving refreshments during emergencies throughout Cumberland & Salem County. She is survived by her husband of 53 yrs: Kenneth R. Quay, Vld. Son & Daughter in law: Kevin & Linda Quay, Cedarville Sister & Brother in law: Mary Lou & Gene Pierson, Vld. 6 Grandchildren & 7 Great Grandchildren Relatives & friends will be received on Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM with an Eastern Star Service to be conducted at 8:00 PM at the Pancoast Funeral Home, 676 S. Main Road, Vineland, NJ. A private family funeral service will be conducted on Monday with burial to follow in the Siloam Cemetery, Vineland.
